How to E-Verify Your ITR (AY 2026-27): Aadhaar OTP & the 30-Day Rule
Your return isn't actually filed until you e-verify it. Here's how — in under two minutes.
The 30-day rule: you have 30 days from filing to e-verify. Miss it and your return is treated as never filed.
The easiest way: Aadhaar OTP
- After submitting your ITR, choose e-Verify Now.
- Select "Verify using OTP on mobile number registered with Aadhaar".
- Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Done — you'll see a success message and get an acknowledgement (ITR-V).
Your PAN must be linked to Aadhaar and your mobile number registered with Aadhaar for this to work.
Other ways to e-verify
- Net banking — log in to your bank and use the "e-file / income tax" link.
- Bank or demat account EVC — generate an Electronic Verification Code.
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) — for those who have one.
Already filed but forgot to verify?
Log in to the income tax portal, go to e-File → Income Tax Returns → e-Verify Return, and complete it — as long as you're within 30 days of filing.
