Documents Required to File ITR AY 2026-27

Gather these before you start and filing your FY 2025-26 return becomes a 20-minute job.

Everyone needs

  • PAN (linked to Aadhaar) and Aadhaar.
  • Form 16 from your employer (Part A + Part B).
  • AIS / TIS and Form 26AS — the department's record of your income and TDS.
  • Bank interest certificates (savings account + fixed deposits).
  • Bank account number & IFSC (pre-validated) for your refund.

If you invest

  • Capital-gains / P&L statements from your broker (Zerodha, Groww, etc.) and mutual-fund houses/CAMS-KFintech.
  • Dividend summary.
  • If you hold RSUs/ESOPs: vesting and sale statements — see how to report RSU/ESOP.

If you claim deductions (old regime)

  • 80C: LIC/ELSS/PPF/EPF, tuition fees, principal on home loan.
  • 80D: health-insurance premium receipts.
  • HRA: rent receipts / rent agreement — see how to claim HRA.
  • Home-loan interest certificate from your lender.

If you're a freelancer / business

  • Bank statements for the year, invoices / income summary, and expense records.

Pro tip: always reconcile your return against your AIS and 26AS — mismatches are the #1 cause of tax notices.
